FirstAssist was originally formed in March 1998, combining
the operations of three specialist companies; The Legal Protection Group
(LPG), International Assistance Services (IAS) and The CareAssist Group
(CAG). These companies had previously been integrated after the merger
of Sun Alliance and the Royal in 1996 and had been providing a range of
legal expenses products and assistance services since 1977.
The Healthcare business of FirstAssist was formed in
1997 under Royal & SunAlliance and rapidly grew to become one of the
market leaders in the provision of health and wellbeing products and services.
The business has grown strongly to a total income of around £300m
in 2002.
FirstAssist has offices in Sutton, Bournemouth, Plymouth,
Purley, Halifax and Hinckley and employs over 1100 staff, including experts
in medicine, law, counselling, Insurance claims handling and underwriting.

All the other services that form part of Essential4Business are provided
by FirstAssist Services Limited and are not regulated by the Financial
Services Authority.
